Barry, the advert for 'Hayes Novelty Stores' settles some questions from the former days on this site. I may have earlier erroniously referred to the Coldharbour Lane store as the 'Hayes Toy Shop' (as I believe we then called it among ourselves) and misspelled the name of the owner, which is I see, a Mr. Woolf. No doubt about it, though, Mr Woolf sold the best fireworks in town. Notice that the advert suggests that the Hayes shop began around 1940 or so after its previous London location was destroyed by a bomb. In some of my photos you can still see a faint outline of the word 'Toys' on the side wall of the shop--even long after the location became the new home for Cain's.
