What is totally amazing, is just how many of the businesses that were around in 1943 were still around into the 70s, 80s and 90s. Caswell & Pickups, Brixeys, Wilson & Wylie, Pratts Motor Insurance. Just incredible. Seeing those, and then seeing news of all the clubs & societies is so evocative of the Hayes I knew as a boy and a young man, which now seems far away.
