Helen MacKay was the first woman to sing first song on television when it opened at Alexandra Palace.
She lived in Hayes with her husband Bob and they later became singers in the group the Song Pedlars. They were also backing singers for Lena Horne and Donald Peers and often appeared at the London Palladium.

Helen McKay was the voice featured on the famous Eddie Calvert record 'O Mein Papa'. I remember the excitement at the time when the record stayed in the charts for what seemed like ages.
