I think it could be Acton.

It doesn't look like Acton to me but if you look at the Green Bus it is not the type of model we used to have in our area.

I remember this picture and seeing it again, Bedford came to mind. I found a Frith photo and sure enough, it is St Paul's Square, Bedford.

Many thanks Marian for solving the location puzzle that has had me stumped for many a year. I too have just found the Frith postcard of St Paul's Square in Bedford and the views of both images could be superimposed. Now the question is, what was I doing in Bedford in May of 1968? Perhaps they were having a market day (as it appears)and I was invited along by Hayes relatives. Does anyone know if, some 44 years later, a market day is still held in Bedford's St Paul's Square?

I'm pleased the mystery is solved, Chris, and just by chance really. I initially thought that Bedford was too far away. I read somewhere that the market, which is a Charter market, has been in existence since the 1500's, and still takes place in St Paul's Square twice a week, I think.

That's incredible!! After all these years! I couldn't remember if we'd ever actually arrived at a conclusion when you posted this on the former albums.
How on EARTH did you manage to work that out Marian??? You retain your title as the greatest detective involved with these sites.

I agree that Marian deserves credit for knowing just where to look for the answer. I imagine it must have taken a good deal of research.

Josh .. it was easy once I decided it would be a High Street. It reminded me of Uxbridge. I studied the Frith Postcards and when I found the one of the High Street in Bedford, discovered it was the same as Chris's photo. Just call me Miss Marple :-) :-)

Thanks, David. I did think that the Frith Postcards may go back too far as this one is 1968, but I struck lucky. :-)
