This great photo has been sent in by Paul Pickering, who writes:
"I am attaching a photo that I have recently come across, of my old local pub - "The Firefly" that used to be located at the top of Stratford Road and Welbeck Avenue. From '71 until we moved away in '74 "The Firefly" used to be my "local". It had a good atmosphere during those years, and
was really The Pub for the Barnhill Estate in that you only usually ever saw local people there - and for myself, in my early 20's - old school mates there.
I frequently used to spend my leave days/time off (as I was serving in RAF) with old school mates there and we had some great times.
In all the years that have passed since I moved away from Hayes (1974), I have never seen a photo of "The Firefly" anywhere on the web, and I have frequently looked/searched.
As far as I know, this may be the only photo of the old "Firefly" in existence. Judging by the cars in the carpark, it looks like a snapshot taken from possibly the late 60's -to- mid-70's.
