Thanks for this excellent photo of my old school, which of course looks so different from the 60's. The poppies make a brilliant display. I notice that Hewens Road is now on a bus route. I'm glad you gave the school it's original name.

Thankyou for the picture which I also enjoyed looking at as another past Mellow Lane pupil. I agree that the poppies look lovely and think they are on the waste ground which led to the tuck shop we used to go to. I can't imagine buses going along Hewens Road and the idea of them now changes the atmosphere I remember of a more country area from Hewens Road to Charville. We used to cycle or walk which were good memories.

Apart from these poppies, there were massive amounts growing near the Stockley bypass. Never seen so many poppies. Someone told me the other day that there's been a big effort to get poppies growing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and that local authorities are involved and that B&Q have been giving out poppy seeds. I wonder if this has anything to do with the number of poppies I keep seeing this year?

Just to confirm, the poppies in my picture and the ones I'd seen near the Stockley bypass WERE planted for the WWI centenary. Hillingdon Council put up signs at both locations about it. I have a photo of the sign which went with the poppies above, which I'll upload soon.
