So here we see what it was like behind those windows at night when the building looked especially austere with the dim lights. It must have been the time when the boys really realised they were away from the comforts of home. I wonder if the beds had been arranged like that for the photograph as there is no furniture for clothes. It is a very thought provoking photo. Thankyou, Susanne.

Marian, you read my mind. I used to walk past occasionally on the way home from piano lessons and used to look up at the dorm windows with a feeling of foreboding, wondering what it was like for the "inmates".

Being one of the "Bad Boys", I remember this dormitory well
This is one of three dormitories. there was one on the right of the front of the building, and another on the left of the front of the building. the dormitory shown was on the left of the building and was set out as shown. The boys clothing was stored in in a room where the camera is positioned, as was the masters bedroom.
this was the main dormitory, and there was always a housemaster who had to sleep in in a partitioned room in this dormitory.

My husband used to attend this school. Does anyone have any knowledge of 1964 Christmas pantomime..sinbad. he's been telling grandchildren about it..and would love to get hold of any pics. He knows some were taken by local newspaper but can't remember the name of it

Hi Helen
I'm not sure what newspapers were around in 1964 but you could try contacting the Uxbridge Gazette and the Hayes and Harlington Gazette. I think Mr Wooley was headmaster at that time. Good luck with this.

I think the best place to check local newspaper records is Uxbridge library. In the 60s I believe the choice would have been the Gazette, the Chronicle and the Hayes News.

I remember looking up at the dormitory windows on the way home from my piano lessons and wondering, with foreboding, what it would be like to be one of the inmates!
