The Gazette have done an AMAZING double page spread on these pictures in today's edition. The edition I saw was the Uxbridge one, so I expect that means it's gone in all editions across the borough.

My Grandfather, Frederick Westgate, was Head Master from 1937 to 1963. I think he wouldn't have approved of the Gazette headline "Bad Boys"! While, yes the boys were young offenders, he wanted to make sure they had the best possible chance for the future.

Yes, I thought it a bit of a shame about the headline. I made sure when I wrote on here about any of the boys coming to do some gardening at the dental practice that they were polite and very well-behaved. Never would have guessed they came from an Approved School.

I think it's a crying shame such a grand building was demolished.

I agree. There must have been so many uses for the building and also to keep some history alive. I was telling my mother recently that Sandgate Hall is no longer there in Hayes Town either, and she couldn't believe it. Not such an impressive building but still had character, I think.

Being a "Bad Boy" I stayed at St Christopher's and remember the building well.
On the far right ground floor was the dining room, and above it was a dormitory.
In the centre ground floor was administration offices, and above was the Headmaster's flat. on the left ground floor was the recreation room. The building jutting out on the left was the gym
