A few people sitting on the wall opposite the shops probably with their lunch of
fish and chips. The seagulls must be having a rest or were not hungry. When we used to go there from Hayes when we were children, not many of the buildings past the old shops would have been there. You can see a block of flats painted dark blue and they were built immediately in front of some old cottages. The people who lived in one of them told us that they had a lovely view over the river and beyond, then it was completely blocked out by the new building of flats. Now the occupants of those have the view instead and a lot of them would be holidaymakers.

That's unfortunate, but you never know when you buy what seems the ideal home that some development is going to spoil it. I no longer get the setting sun in my lounge because of a monstrous two storey house that replaced the bungalow next door.

That must have been devastating for those people. There is also an area along the seafront where new buildings were put up, obscuring sea views that people had enjoyed until then. I don't really think that should be allowed, or if it is, compensation should be paid.
