Good picture but I think you will find this is the Royal Oak Church Road.

The picture is sadly all that is left of it now. I remember standing at that bus stop in Church Road waiting for the bus to go home to Charville after staying at my Gran's nearby. The gardens of the Royal Oak were lit up at night with coloured lights draped from tree to tree. Lemonade and crisps there was an outing we enjoyed as children. Such a shame the place has gone now. Did you remember the gardens, Bondyboy?

Hi Marian. I don't particularly remember the gardens but I do remember drinking in the saloon bar quite often. I used to drive the buses from Uxbridge garage so I may have picked you up on a 98, 98b or 198.

Oops..yes, Royal Oak. Confused by those bus numbers. The ones I remember down Church Road were 98, 90B and 195.

Hi Bondyboy .. I didn't realise you had been a bus driver and on the routes I was used to! Was there a 98B as well as a 90B?

I seem to remember the 98's going to Hounslow but don't remember about the others.
I think the 195 ? was introduced for us who lived in Charville. (Hayes North) That was a big event for us after having to walk to Lansbury Drive or along Pole Hill Road to the Uxbridge Road.

Hi Marian. 90b was operated from Twickenham garage and went from Kew to Hayes, I used to use this bus to Barnhill School when it terminated in Kingshill Ave around 1952.
From Uxbridge garage the 98 operated from Hillingdon to Hounslow. The 98b operated from Feltham to North Harrow Station. The 198 operated from Hounslow to Uxbridge. They all crossed over at various stages of the routes.

Hi Bondyboy ... so did you drive any other buses other than the 98? I've often wondered if the bus-drivers were able to choose their bus or whether had to follow instructions and have to drive what was arranged for them.

From Uxbridge Garage we drove...98, 98a, 98b, 198, 204, 207, 224, 224a, 224b, 223, 225, 204.
We didn't choose our routes they were all rostered and we would change routes approx every week.
