To be fair, if Tescos were going to radically assess their infrastructure requirements with the intent of closing those parts of the firm that were not required, they would probably make that assessment away from the public and perhaps away from their shareholders at first.

It seems reasonable to me that when your business is national security, such an assessment would be conducted confidentially as well. I understand that this type of national estates review is not unusual, except the results from this one have highlighted Northolt as being perhaps surplus to requirements.

well , if Northolt were allowed more flights ,bringing in revenue, its future would be secured
So its a balance , do people want more flights , or thousands of more houses on the site

John: I wish it were up to the locals, but it isn't. The MoD will get what the MoD want,(in terms of keep it or sell it) it's a simple as that

The locals may have a say in what replaces it, but with Cameron's new 'streamlined' planning systems in the pipeline (aimed at avoiding lengthy public enquiries), locals will be pretty much gagged. If I did get a choice - as someone living nearby - give me housing any day over a LHR terminal 6 !!!!
