Is he trying to revive the Nasty party image for the Tories, if so he's doing a good job. May should sack him but unfortunately is in no such position to do so, a great pity!

Ha ha... the problems of the younger generation of course have nothing to do with have their money stolen a thousand different ways every day by the government, local authorities and banks. Everything is a rip-off, sucking money out of all our pockets and funnelling it upwards to the elite.

Agreed! But for any government representative to openly poison the minds of the younger generation against the over 60s is outrageous, and totally unacceptable. This behaviour does positively indicate the very nasty mind-set the political class has towards those it is supposed to protect. Even more disgraceful, is the fact that no official has come out and denied what Javid has said; which underlines and confirms the disgusting nature of this government.

Any government that is prepared to behave like this is prepared to do anything against any of us. Hence I do not believe we will have a Brexit that sets Britain totally free of the iniquitous EU. A government that is willing to set one group of subjects against another in order to conceal its own dishonesty is prepared to do anything to any one of us; it's even prepared to tell bare faced lies about anything. Which underlines my belief that we will NOT have a Brexit that sets Britain totally free of the iniquitous EU.

So baby boomers own their own homes, so what ?

Mine will be inherited, I've worked and paid for it.

If you want to lay blame then look no further than estate agents. They are the ones who savagely raised valuations to a point where foreigners started buying to mostly leave empty.

I lay the blame fully and squarely at the political class; in this case the current government. Estate agents contribute to Government's greed by forcing up the price of property, which also increases Government's Stamp Duty on property transactions.

Government's primary duty is to protect the people and the whole nation, not to set one lawful sector of society against another lawful sector for political gain, which is what Javid is doing. I have neither seen nor heard of any response or criticism from any of May's government toward Javid, therefore I assume that the whole of this government agrees with Javid: that it is acceptable for any government minister to deliberately set one lawful sector of society against another, for political purposes.

It is not YET illegal, neither is it immoral, for any member of society to lawfully own property. Neither is there any lawful reason why any legal owner of property should experience any sense of guilt for owning their own home paid for our of lawful income.

Javid has successfully revealed the truly nasty nature of this government.

This official House of Commons document shows the reduction in the spending power of the £ between the years 1755 until 2011:

Page 16 of the above document contains a table showing the official reduction in the spending power of the £ between 1755 with 2011. Unfortunately, this table doesn't exactly fit the years between 1980 and 2013 as in your price list. But if we compare the reduction in the spending power of the £ between the years 1975 to 2011 we see a a reduction in the spending power of the £ in 2011 to about 1/7th of the spending power in 1975.

The list of prices shown in your post indicate price increases between 1980 and 2013 of about 10:1, which suggests a spending power reduction of the £ for 2013 to be about 1/10th of the spending power in 1980. As I say, your list of price increases and the official document I've linked to are NOT a perfect match in the years. But they do suggest that the bulk of the price increase in house prices is primarily due to currency devaluation, which is price inflation. Inflation that I suggest is mainly due to Government and Bank of England actions.

Taking the spending power of the £ into consideration suggests that house price increases are caused by Government and the Bank of England. If we also consider that in 1980 mortgage interest rates were at or about 15.5%, a factor of about 4 to 6 times current mortgage rates suggests that house prices in 2013 were not any worse than they were in 1980.

I took out a mortgage in 1980, when the interest rate was at 15.5%. I finally redeemed the mortgage in 1994 when the interest rate had reduced to the lowest I had ever paid, which was then at 10%. Whereas a mortgage rate of 6% or 7% today would probably cause the housing market to crash.

Maybe house prices today aren't really the problem they're made out to be. Could it be that the real problem we now have is one of a “low wage economy”, which has also been created by political actions. Back in the1980s there were still plenty of reasonably high paid engineering and manufacturing jobs available; not so today. Today the economy is largely based on cheap labour; such as retail jobs, fast food outlets, and the assembling of kits of parts that have previously been manufactured and produced in the far east. One time valuable skills have been given away to other cheap labour areas. And this is all down to political actions and policies.

Today wealth generation from 'engineering' and 'manufacturing' work have largely become dirty words in the UK. Include the artificial raising of the cost of energy to industry by political actions and the engineering sector was given a political death sentence. The big question is: WHY?

Without a cost effective wealth generating engineering sector, there is always going to be a house price problem, especially with the added politically generated problem of open door immigration to put pressure on the housing stock.

There are far too many PPE and History qualified MPs in Parliament and Government, and all too few B.Sc and M.Sc qualified engineers who understand how to create real wealth.

It could very well be low wages rather than house price increase. Actually you're more than like correct.

Double edged sword because higher wages puts more trade into the likes of China where wages are poverty so they can compete, even with shipping. Not to mention the cheap tat they often produce.

If house prices had tracked wages and showed a slower increase then we could be a world supplier at reasonable prices.

Re encouraging the young to despise and resent their elders, this was very prevalent during and since the referendum campaign.
