Make that Tilehurst Reading (ish) and within a year :D

So what will I be leaving behind:

No more cars screeching sounds round the Yeading B&Q/B&M/Tesco carparks Fri/Sat nights. Although it has reduced considerably after they introduced speed humps and a barrier for B&Q/B&M but Tesco refuse to think of local residents.

No more stuck in gridlock within half a mile of driving out.

No more concerns about Heathrow 3.

    TBH, crap neighbours.

Kemmen, I truly hope you find what you're looking for. Unfortunately, much of the UK is being taken over by an ever-widening spirit of lawlessness, as is the whole of the Western World. For decades now the political class have been promising us “change”, but none of them have ever publicly defined what they meant by change; all very deceitful, and the program continues at pace.

As for the Hayes/Hillingdon area, it was bad when I left fifteen years ago. I made a fleeting visit about two years ago, and was shocked at the changes. Whilst you're living in an area the changes aren't so shocking, it's the rising water-temperature and frog syndrome, but when you come out for a period of time and later pay a visit the changes are very striking. Not so slowly now, those undefined changes are affecting all of us, wherever we live.

I agree but moving 30ish miles west produces a far better living experience.

I've been shopping in Reading and been greeted with polite sales assistants.
I've been shopping in Hayes and been ignored by mainly foreign sales assistants.

PCWorld is dreadful, they gather in groups chatting and ignore customers.

Thanks Jon

We've gone some further investigation and Lower Earley looks a better bet. Newer houses and more of them.

Won't be till next March at the earliest so plenty more investigation time.

Wish you well on your move Kremmen. Reading in my view is good for shopping but becomes a bit of a wild west town on Friday & Saturday nights, there again I guess most town centres do!

We've been out for a few reccies and compared to round here it's loads better, traffic and people. She has local knowledge as she works in Reading and most of her colleagues live local.

Tilehurst
Caversham
Pangbourne
Wokingham

Avoid:

Whitley & the Oxford Road (bandit country)
Any road too close to the M4 (white noise), river Kennet or the Thames (flood risk)

Lower Earley seems to be the best area to watch out for property next year.
