I’ve never been keen on shopping. Now the vast majority of readers commenting on this article suggest that many, many people are not impressed with the severe conditions that this government has imposed on shopping, with a large number indicating that they will not use the shops until ‘normality’ is restored:

Will Johnson, Hancock & Co eventually have to take responsibility for killing the shops, along with millions of jobs? Will pressure from retail businesses force a rethink from Government, or is political rational thinking also a thing of the past?

Trouble is, while on lock down, people who were wary of online shopping
Got used to it, and its fast , and cheaper
Saving parking money and time.
It might even pave the way , to have big shops closed on Sundays again , bonus
And people working from home seem to have proved to be more efficient
Saving hundreds, and over a year thousand, in travel costs
With the bonus, of no commute time
They can gain multiple hours a day.
And better for the environment

So yes, the high street is dying.

It's not just shops but all the sandwich bars, cafés, coffee shops that depend on office workers and others using them lunchtime. I'm not in favour of working from home it can be socially isolating and although the likes of Zoom can be useful there is nothing like a face-to-face office meetings.
