If Ireland were to reubnite by democratic referendums passed by the Dail in Dublin and the stormont Assembly as both being successor states form teh 1921 partition, would the Irish protestant minority and Catholic Majority accept equally by referendums, joining teh Commonwealth founded by teh Uited Kingdom in teh reign of the present Monarchs father King George VI?

The commonwelath was founded in the 1940s-50s with more states gaining indepence within it in the 1960s and Southern Ireland became a republic in 1949.

Ireland are slaves to the EU via membership of the Euro and the enforced austerity packages they endure.

They will not becoming a member of the Commonwealth anytime soon. It wouldn't make any sense at all.

Don't see it happening because every ex-pats pension would no doubt be frozen immediately Eire joined the Commonwealth !!!!!

Eire don't have many ex pats, to cold windy and wet. It is usually the other way round. Citizens of the Irish Republic have an automatic right to enter live and work in the UK. Not sure if it works the other way round but if it did there aren't many takers!!
