I suppose a sniper on the roof would be frowned upon.

Just count your blessings we don't live in Camden, Westminster, or Brent where you are punished just for having a car, with disguised envy taxes. :o :o

Give it time Jim, LBH are simply behind the times that is all.

As for running the number plate data and checking if it matches the make, model and colour it would be easy enough to clone plates from exactly the same model as your own.

There are only two answers to this sort of problem, they either outlaw the making of spare plates unless you have a genuine reason to want them and produce the V5 at the time or they go down the US route where you have to pay for your fuel before you pump it.

Me thinks it will be the latter and sooner than most people think. I treated myself to a new Mondeo just before Xmas it costs almost £100 bar a few pennies to fill the tank from empty on its 70 litre tank. If they get one or two 'drive aways' like that a day it will be a significant incentive for the fuel retailers to act.

same as my Volvo have to remortgage to fill up, and on old pumps have to switch engine off as I gain on it. :( :(

You have to pre-pay at the Shell garage White Hart roundabout in the evenings and they only have some of the pumps working.

They aren't using bought plates but unscrewing them off other cars. Mine are both screwed (anti-undo screws) and stuck on with about 6 or 7 super sticky pads I got from Halfords.
My car is reasonably safe though as it's parked in a locked garage at home and in a secured area at work.
