Buy the bearings and fit yourself not a difficult job, but you may need a bearing puller, I have changed bearings on the road side, on a boat trailer, and on a car in my driveway. :) :)

Think you need a jag tool , most garages won't do it ??
Minimum I have seen is £350 each side

Our local auto parts stores will loan tools, pullers etc if you buy the parts from them, there is a credit card and a valid drivers license involved for security, but the tools are free, try it.

A few years ago my Cavalier failed the MOT due to wheelbearings needing replacing. I asked the garage to fit new ones and it passed the MOT.

After that I got a dreadful banging noise when I drove the car - the garage couldn't put it right and I ended up scrapping the car two weeks after the garage bodged the job. The garage just wouldn't accept liability for it.

I'd say, be careful where you take your car John - get some recommendations first
