How do you prove you have paid if an inspector gets on?

Many buses in central London don't accept cash so there's no printer. Inspectors can see the history of an oyster card by a simple scan. I wonder how they can check payment with a charge card?

probably, scan your card with some fancy attachment, fitted on the back of an I-Phone.

As I understand it, from today you can now pay your fare by touching your credit or debit card on the yellow pad on buses ala oyster card.

I wonder how many people have their oyster cards in their wallets/purses and touch the whole thing as the RFID is quite effective?

Guess where I'm coming from with CC's, DC's and Oysters all in the same holder :D

I don't think it would read two cards so quick, in succession. 8-)

Having looked into the tech I think your right. There is supposed to be a short time delay to stop a double swipe. I wonder if you did whether it would register the Oyster card or your CC first ?

Must find out whether it gives out a receipt for a CC ? I'll post back later once I've asked.

When an inspector gets on the bus he requests an 'information ticket' from the driver. This gives the inspector all the info he needs to check valid tickets and has been the procedure for years.

What happens now is that the 'information ticket' also contains the last 4 digits of all credit/debit cards used on that journey.

so the inspector will just be checking the last 4 digits of your card.

Next question ?

Thanks Kremmen

As for the double card situation, Tfl website says the system will not charge both cards if this happens. Mmmmmmmm they would say that wouldn't they? But then they were pretty quiet about the 10s of £thousands owed to customers by Oyster overcharging until a campaign group highlighted and publicised it.

I not too happy about the contactless card feature as I am unsure of the security aspect of the system. I have read that it is possible to make device which allows you to mingle in crowds, collecting data from cards in handbags and wallets before connecting to the net and stealing lots of small amounts of cash

Is it possible to opt out of contactless cards does anyone know?

They will all be going down that route soon. We will all need to buy RFID blocking cases for our cards - or leave them at home like I do.

This is all a bit scary. So don't you put a Pin number in with a contactless credit card?

Never thought of that.

I suppose because you have to have the card, and as it doesn't use the magnetic strip but the chip, the bit that can be cloned, I suppose it's safe ?

It isn't safe and that's why I don't want one.

If I'm forced to have one I'll be buying a blocking case for it.

Better to just get an Oyster card in it's own holder and be done with it.
