Does anyone have any tips as to the best way to manage picture and music files?

Have you looked at Dropbox? That should work on your tablet, phone and PC

I bought a nexus 7 pretty soon after they were released last Autumn.

First I got the 16Gb version and loaded loads of music on but wanted more space so gave it to my partner and bought another 32gb.

I just made a folder on the internal SD card and dropped the files across. Google play is clever enough to find and list them from there. If you have the album art leave it in the folders and the app will display it alongside a list of the tracks.

I have an extensive collection of music and have never purchased anything from google play so cannot comment on that aspect.

There is a must have app called ES file explorer. It allows you to network the nexus 7 to other pc's and storage platforms in your home network so you could make some playlists and listen to music from other devices stored on and streamed from your home network. If you are clever with port forwarding you can also do this across the internet either via another wireless network or tethered to a 3g phone.

Drop Box or sky drive (there are others) can be used to remotely store data which you can then access from anywhere with an internet connection and the required app. This is handy when you are away on holiday and want to access your ebooks or music library.

Simply head on down to the nearest bar with free net access fire up the app and download what you need from your personal allocated space.

Must have apps for Nexus IMPO.

Drop Box (you will need to make an account at dropbox.com) or google drive
ES File Explorer.
BBC I Player.
Firefox
Google Maps
FB Reader (e books)
Wikipedia
BBC News
Sky News
Skype
Twonky Beam (particularly if you have an internet TV)

Optional but I find them useful.
Flixter or IMDB or Odeon App
Facebook
Evernote (syncs across devices)
Daily Mail online (handy for abroad)
google earth
i player radio
Merriam Webster Dictionary
Solitaire Game
Soundhoud or Tune Wiki
Tune in Radio
VLC
Stumble Upon
Tapatalk.

That should be enough to be going on with.

Anyone got any ideas about a Nexus7 problem - it keeps saying 'authentication problem' - nothing I've tried gets rid of it.
