Can anyone offer advice on what might be the best free anti-virus for a Toshiba Chromebook?

Most of the reviews I've seen put MSE last.

I pay for Norton. I ran Kaspersky for a year but found it a resource hog at PC bootup as it insisted on performing 3 separate scans that took over the PC for about 10 minutes.

I paid just under £30 for Norton 5 devices so it's on the phone and tablet as well.

I had McAffee but am not renewing. Will trust inbuilt Microsoft defence.

I've got a MacBook Air and haven't bought any anti-virus on the basis that it doesn't really need it - quote Apple guy (True?). My wife has a Toshiba Chromebook and uses fee AVAST which seems to be quite adequate.
