Would anyone know anything about Joseph Walker formerly of Lisburn Northern Ireland, born about 1897 and died 10th September 1917 in Hayes Cottage Hospital, Middlesex, aged 20.
Bro. Walker had been a member of the Irish Guards and had served with the British Expeditionary Force. Due to heart disease he had discharged in March 1917 and returned to civilian life, taking up employment in the Hayes munition factory.
He was working in the munitions factory as a lathe operator when a belt on one of the machines broke, he and a work colleague were both killed.
Company Sergeant Major William Holmes DCM Irish Guards wrote a letter of sympathy on behalf of the regiment's officers to his mother Mrs. Annie Walker of Ivan Street, Lisburn.
I have a copy from a Lisburn newspaper of the report of his inquest, it mentions his wife who worked at the same factory, but no name, or if they had children.
His name is on the Lisburn war memorial.
