With the weather improving it's time to get the bikes out, just wondered if anyone has some good off road routes.

I have managed to find a good cycling route between West Drayton & Spelthorne.

Daughter Christine is cycling down ` Death Road' in Bolivia next week; looks VERY scenic when I googled it !!

( She is just completing a two week medical mission and then takes two days as a tourist )

You can do quite a bit of the route from Hayes to Ruislip off-road. A rise around Ruislip Lido's quite nice too.

Yes we ventured on our bikes to Ruislip Lido for the first time when they had British Legion Family Day last September.

Originally from Wales with the beach down the road, I was thrilled to find Ruislip Lido although not quite the same it's close.

My mum and dad used to cycle down to the south coast when they were young and once cycled to the Isle of Wight. (And before Brian or Jim chip in.... yes I think a ferry might have helped them on part of the journey.)

many many years ago a couple of mates and myself were going to cycle to Southend, after what seemed a very long time, tired and knackered we stopped and asked a guy how far to the beach, he said what beach ? it turns out we were at Finchley ( the naked lady) after that me and cycling fell out. :o :o :o :o

There are now fabulous apps to prevent such a mistake.

Bike Hub
Map My Ride
Every Trail

to name a few I've used :-)

My cousin and I used to cycle to a relative in Hitchin, 50 miles; play with our cousins then stay overnight before cycling home. Must have been around 12 yrs old or so. Nowadays our parents would be in jail for permitting us to enjoy our freedom like that.

Later years, around 14 cycled there and back in one day , solo , just to see if I could hack it. Did too but ached for a few days afterwards !
