Ian Dury has always been a favourite of mine and perhaps an underestimated contemporary poet, comedian as well as musician. I have been listening to an Ian Dury mix on You tube this morning (whilst working at my PC) and found this: :D

The Bus Driver's Prayer

Our Father,
Who art in Hendon
Harrow Road be Thy name
Thy Kingston come
Thy Wimbledon
In Erith as it is in Hendon.
Give us this day our Berkhampstead
And forgive us our Westminsters
As we forgive those who Westminster against us.
Lead us not into Temple Station
And deliver us from Ealing,
For thine is the Kingston
The Purley and the Crawley,
For Iver and Iver
Crouch End

Very clever.

I must admit I have watched quite a few Youtube videos lately and am only just beginning to appreciate how very talented many of the 70s pop and and rock stars were as musicians, poets and peformers.... even if their lifestyles and lyrics were sometimes unfortunate.

Always remember 'in the back of my Cortina by christ you should of seen her'. Also from the same era the maestro Bryan Ferry is going to be very busy next May and June, I have always enjoyed him.

Did he write the bus driver's prayer?
I remember having it on a card in the late 50s

Ian went to my school for a while, he's in the school photo with his quiffed hair! I bought a print of Ian Dury by the pop artist Peter Blake who designed the cover of the Beatles Sgt. Peppers album. It is 1 of a 100 signed by Peter Blake and sold by Ian's daughter for a charitable cause. He was a genuine 'one-off' but his music was original!
