Amongst the poetry I write which is often very deep and hopefully meaningful, I like to write jokes (they are a bit feeble really) and lines which are a 'play on words'. I once wrote a song called I Don't Know Why which received a special mention in a Songwriting Contest I entered. It has always been popular and made people laugh when really there are only a few words I Don't Know Why.
I was never able to follow it up with anything like it, but then the weather-related idea came to me to use Whether The Weather. I first posted them on the Weather section and now they are here. My adult son who writes poetry himself thought they were funny, especially the 'hot' line and has suggested they should be on a Limerick site. Limericks are quite hard to write when it comes to the last and 'punch' line. My jokes usually turn out to be 'Groaners' but manage to raise a smile or laugh.
The first weather-related poem is

Whether the weather is cold
Whether the weather is not
Whatever the weather
Men and women ask whether
The weather-forecaster is hot!
words copyright Marian Nov2012

The last line using the word 'hot' now has a double meaning since 'hot' and 'fit' have become descriptive words to describe an attractive woman or guy. Being that 'hot' is a weather-related word, I thought the use of the word 'hot' made a double meaning for the punch-line. Well, it was once the sort of thing I wrote and were published in our local press.

I forget to listen when a certain young man is giving the weather-forecast. He is so smart and I am always admiring the fact he wears cuff-links because they seemed to have become a thing of the past. :)

[b]Dedicated to someone in Wiltshire with thanks

Whether the weather is cold
Whether the weather is good
When things are quite bad
Something good makes us glad
When somebody there understood

Whether the weather is warm
Whether the weather is bad
I say thanks to whoever
Liked my poems 'bout the weather
To write them was really quite sad/b]

'Cos whether the weather is lovely
Whether the weather is poor
Whatever the weather
We work and endeavour
A wordsmith can never be sure

So whether the poetry said
The night sky is glowing bright red
We rely on the weather
But who can say whether
We work or we just stay in bed

words changed on November 29th 2012

Thankyou, Jon

Whether The Weather Is Foggy (Forecasters Are Clever)

Whether the weather is foggy
Whether the weather is bright
Whatever the weather
Forecasters are clever
When forecasters turn out to be right

But whether the weather is certain
Whether the weather will change
Whatever the weather
We're in it together
Forecasters are top of the range

And whether the weather is showery
Or whether the sunshine will roast!
Weather girls, Weather fellas
Tell us shades or umbrellas
Take your choice, guys, it's indoors or coast!

If Whether Weathers Weather is wet and windy
If Whether Weathers Weather snows at all
If brollies were made upside down
|t could rain fivers and all.

(sorry Jim)
