The process for getting legal advice in the previously fused legal jurisdictions of England and Wales (as amended by Devolution referendums and acts of the Federal Westminster Parliament and Welsh Assembly)

In England and Wales there have been two types of legal practicioner, the Barristers of Law and Solicitors.

The first who having completed their LLB/ LLM Law degrees and gained membership through vocational training and sitting dinners at one of the four given London Inns of Court or one of the Regional ones (such as Chester) specialise in legal representation in the courts and progress to either higher professional standards (Queens Counsel) by itself or combined with becoming a Judge in Court if their career paths are purely self employed lawyers (others who diverge from that are authors such as John Mortimer or the broadcaster Clive Anderson).

However it is the second (Solicitors) who actually prepare the case and seek to employ the Barristers unless the case is dealt with under church or military law. After passing the LLB trainee solicitors do the Legal training course set out by the Law Society. However now the precise standards and codes of conduct for solicitors are set by the Independent Solicitors Regulation Authority.
