The UK government is to pay an advertising giant, which campaigned against Brexit, £60 million to fight so-called “far right” extremism online, including “going against people who read Breitbart”.

What defines "far right" these days when everything political is so far Left that ever-decreasing circles is the political phenomena; anybody who doesn't protest against President Trump, or doesn't believe the man-made global warming/climate change myth?

I agree. I'm certain it will backfire. The public are waking up very quickly to the lack of truth coming from the MSM and the political class.

I think that Douglas Carswell MP is accurately reading the situation:
http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/764386 ... ee-boycott

Carswell is referring to the BBC in the above article, but what he says of the BBC and the TV Licence applies also to the whole of the MSM. Newspaper sales are at an all time low. And the on-line versions are increasingly being seen by the public for what they are; dumbed down propaganda sites with little of real news value.

The Daily Mail on-line version has reduced itself to something approaching a comic strip; one that has decided to specialise in soft porn that runs down the right-hand side of the 'news' pages. Only trivia is presented as 'news' in the DM these days. No investigative journalism.

The DT is no longer worthy of any attention. Completely lost its way as a news source.

I wouldn't actually recommend the Daily Express these days, but it does occasionally produce some news items worthy of attention.

The Mirror and Guardian are out-and-out Leftist propaganda sheets that make no attempt to hide it.

ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and the BBC are even worse at presenting real news than the Press are.

For years now Media Studies has been a relative favourite for students. At the same time real investigative journalism has become a lost art; plus, our attention span for reading properly constructed text news reports has been reduced as part of the instant gratification generation. Today, the media is all about blasting our minds with photographic images, supported with a few biased sound bites. And those photographic images are at best, extremely unreliable sources of news – it is far too easy these days for the MSM to create imaged news, and leave the rest to our distorted imaginations that can be heavily influenced by computer games. The camera can, and does lie.

Even so, there are significant indicators that the public is waking up to the problem of false/fake news in the MSM. And the MSM and the political class are now trying to shift the blame for false/fake news from the MSM, to the alternative media news sources. The political MSM is sounding like it is running scared.
