This ten minute video explains the purpose of Smart Meteres https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zIDW7H6XqA

Be aware, we all have right to refuse to have smart meters installed. It is NOT a legal requirement to have smart meters installed in our homes. Although the energy companies do imply you MUST have smart meters installed – they are not being truthful.

From the DM 30-03-17:
Quote:
The boss of one of Britain’s biggest electricity firms has questioned the ‘security and safety’ of the national £11billion roll-out of smart meters across the UK.
Vincent de Rivaz, chief executive of EDF Energy, said the programme faces ‘many challenges’ and was critical of the quality of the meters being offered to customers.
He added that the issues may pose a threat to ‘public confidence’ in the programme.
The smart meter project is intended to fit 26 million homes across the country with smart meters by 2020.

Also..........

The current batch of smart meters are company specific. If you opt for one, then change supplier, you will need a new one.

At some point this year, BG reckon, they are introducing a company wide one, the mark 4 apparently, that will stay in place regardless of your supplier.

By 2020 I think you will have to have one though.

Will it be compulsory to have a smart meter? Can we as householders refuse to have one installed?

R.K. Yes you have the right to refuse smart meters.

See: http://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/

I wrote to my MP for confirmation that we can refuse smart meters. He eventually replied, providing various commuications from within Parliament and Government, confirming that we can refuse smart meters.

About three months ago I received an email from my energy supplier, Co-op Energy, explaining all the 'benefits' of smart meters. The aim of the email from the Co-op was to persuade me to have smart meters installed. They claim, to reduce my costs and give me more control over my energy consumption. I already have full control over my energy consumption without a smart meter. As for the cost, that is something only the energy suppliers and the Government can control, and neither show any interest in reducing the cost to me, or anybody else.

I phoned the Co-op, twice, to speak to somebody who would accept my refusal; they were somewhat reluctant though. I pressed the point that smart meters are on NOT compulsory - there was along pause from the other end of the phone. They eventually agreed that I could refuse smart meters, and agreed to place a comment on the meter database (whatever that means). Anyway, I didn't have smart meters installed.

Smart meters communicate with the energy the supplier via near constant microwave mobile telephone-type radiation. As I say, this communication is near constant pulsed microwave energy of not inconsiderable power levels of microwave radiation – not good for health of anything. Plus, I don't want the meters to be used to spy on my privacy.

According to a recent BBC news snippet I was watching a week or so ago GCHQ have found security issues with the current range.

Plus, as posted, they are single company only, till the next gen come out.

Therefore the idea that other companies can check your usage and make competitive quotes goes right out of the window.

.... and yet BG are advertising daily to try and get you to have one fitted

I agree with you, Kremmen. There have also been reports in the media that would-be house buyers are insisting that the seller has smart meters removed and replaced with original type meters before a purchase will be considered. A near neighbour of mine had to have the smart meters removed, the original types replaced, and the solar panels removed from the roof in order to make a sale. There are a lot of people out there that don't want smart meters, or solar panels on their property.

The thing that concerns me about solar panels is their fixings.

They seem to stand proud of the roof tiles so would they promote roof issues under hurricanes, of which we have seen a few.

Also, I've seen chicken wire around a few so presumably birds are nesting under them.

The idea of solar does sound interesting if it saves you money but I've read it takes a few decades to be in profit.

I agree with all that.

I watched with great interest an installation on a neighbour's roof. The panels are well proud of the roof by about 4 to 5 inches. The installers removed certain tiles from the roof, cut slots in the top edges of the tiles to accommodate the fixing brackets. The brackets were hooked over the internal roof timbers, and aligned with the cut slots in the tiles, the tiles were replaced with the brackets protruding through the cut slots in the tiles. The panels were bolted to the protruding brackets, one in each corner of the large panel. There are a total of 16 large panels (two parallel rows of eight), all mounted very close to one another, making an effective single large wing surface.

And yes, the birds do nest under them. Heavy rain then washes the nesting material down into the gutters.

It can, and does, get very windy down here in the West Country. I have watched those panels flexing in high winds. It wouldn't surprise me to see them take off in high winds one day, taking sections of the roof with them. I also wonder what the implications are for insurance cover in the event of a 'take-off'.

No, I'm not interested in solar panels. I would prefer an outbreak honesty and technical integrity to infect the political class, resulting in efficient carbon-based power stations to be built again. This political dishonesty and insanity is going to cause a lot of pain, misery, and large scale deaths in the not too distant future if nothing is done to reverse it all. I don't believe that all the political class can be so utterly ignorant of what the implications are for the future, when there is insufficient electrical energy to meet the needs of a modern society; I assume they are planning on disasters occurring; all very nasty.

When you see the awesome power of smart phones, I'd be very afraid of smart meters.

Jon, I've seen the power radiated from a mobile phone. When at work on one occasion, I connected a mobile phone to an appropriate RF spectrum analyser; the output power and bandwidth spread is scary. Far more power than anybody working within a microwave environment is allowed to come anywhere near. We were required to ensure very low levels of microwave exposure for all workers.
