I think the electronic fuel pump elimated the use of a choke, my lawn mower has a choke and is a bitch to start some times, but Ford F150 does not and cranks up immediatly, Nascar has started useing the electronic fuel pumps this year and finding a difference than with the old carbs.

Interestingly Martensen said more than enough electricity is being generated in the World today to meet demand,
That doesn't apply to the UK. Our supply situation is becoming quite critical, something no politician is yet ready to talk about. Severe weather, a major accident, a breakdown, or a combiantion of all three, and the lights will go out. And if Cameron has his way and succeeds in ramping up the manufacturing sector of the economy, then the demand for electricty will begin to outstrip supply.

presumably there will be enough notice to move oil fired to nuclear on the downward slope.
Martensen spoke of a shortage of uranium, that is already causing China problems.

Technology now means most of the major motor manufacturers can make an electric motor which has a reasonable range. Not many have moved to full out production of such models maybe there is problems with the battery technology as we already know battery stores of energy lose a lot of efficiency over time.
There are three issues here: Range, recharging times, and battery life. And all three continue to present major problems into the foreseeable future. There are also serious environmental and resource issues associated with batteries. Electric cars are not there yet, and are not showing any sign of getting there soon. The big issue is density of energy storage; batteries don't come anywhere near the energy density of oil, or even gas. And every battery has a relatively short working life, and are very expensive.

Low powered and inefficient but I always liked the idea of a solar powered Stirling Engine driving a small generator.
Having worked in Mexico plus daughter doing medical missions in South America there are many places where this technology could be used.

As pointed out in quite a few posts, it's the Gov cash grabbing to send out to foreign lands in the form of 'foreign aid'.

I can't believe we are sending money to China of all places ! They are better off then we are.

I think this is now a good time to bring attention to this article:
http://thegwpf.org/opinion-pros-a-cons/ ... rophe.html

Pascal Bruckner: The Ideology Of Catastrophe

Quote:
A time-honored strategy of cataclysmic discourse, whether performed by preachers or by propagandists, is the retroactive correction. This technique consists of accumulating a staggering amount of horrifying news and then—at the end—tempering it with a slim ray of hope. First you break down all resistance; then you offer an escape route to your stunned audience.
Quote:
Another result of the doomsayers' certainty is that their preaching, by inoculating us against the poison of terror, brings about petrification. The trembling that they want to inculcate falls flat. Anxiety has the last word. We were supposed to be alerted; instead, we are disarmed. This may even be the goal of the noisy panic: to dazzle us in order to make us docile. Instead of encouraging resistance, it propagates discouragement and despair. The ideology of catastrophe becomes an instrument of political and philosophical resignation.

But what is the author trying to say? That the population is micro managed and as such manipulable?

Quote:
Sir Martin Rees, a British astrophysicist and former president of the Royal Society, gives humanity a 50% chance of surviving beyond the 21st century.

Rees although a highly educated man who has held prestigious positions and is currently astronomer royal and master of Trinity Collage is also an author, can we accept what he says as authoritative when it may simply be geared towards 'selling more books'?

Quote:
Oncologists and toxicologists predict that the end of mankind should arrive even earlier, around 2060, thanks to a general sterilization of sperm.
What oncologists and toxicologists?

Quote:
Environmentalism sees itself as the fulfillment of all earlier critiques. "There are only two solutions," Bolivian president Evo Morales declared in 2009. "Either capitalism dies, or Mother Earth dies."
A committed socialist president of a no mark South American nation says Capitalism must die? Shock Horror!!

The point being these can be viewed as quite disturbing statements until such time as you delve a little deeper? To perhaps see and understand the hidden agenda's of the persons saying them!

To be honest when it diverged into a bit of scripture at the end I lost the thread of it. What was the aim of the writer? To demonstrate that this micro management exists? Some of us reached that conclusion quite some time ago.

The British population is spoon fed what the powers to be wants it to know, from this it is able to manipulate public opinion whichever direction it wants it to go in. There is even evidence of this right here in this thread!!

In a nutshell: creating fake catastrophes is a political device.
