I know some will disagree, but I've had experience of Hillingdon's A&E being a patient's companion on quite a few recent occasions.

In my opinion it's a very slow, unsympathetic, outfit.

I saw a man come in, obviously in considerable pain, and they pushed him into a cubicle and ignored him and his loud cries for over ½ an hour. During this time there were a gaggle of doctors in the central area 'socialising' and paying no attention to the patients in the cubicles.

The minor injuries clinic behind A&E is just as bad as they leave patients in cubicles for over an hour in some cases and do not keep them informed of progress whilst another gaggle of nurses 'socialise' at the nurses station and look at you when you ask how long. the stock reply is "we are just waiting for a doctor".

Once you do get a doctor though I cannot criticise the attention to detail. The only criticism I have here is that in each occasion they have just fed morphine to cover the pain rather than trying to find out what's causing it. Once the pain has been blocked by morphine - sent home, only for the pain to come back once it's worn off.

I have experienced that more than once when I have gone in with Kidney stones, the agony is intense, they have an injection that relieves the pain very quick, I have asked give me that and will wait as long as you like, big mistake cos now they think you are some sort of junkie trying it on, then end up being admitted. :( :(
