Hi from Western Canada, Tony

Just read your reply and noted that I referered to my class mate as Bernard, it should have been
Gerald. (minds do tend to let one down at times) Glad you have made contact. May I ask one question Our class commenced leaving school at Easter 1940. Many of us joined local services. Civil Defence, ambulance, etc. I joined the AFS, then the RN.
Sorry to hear that Gerry had passed away. Which route of life did he take?. It is nice to hear about a classmate, even after 72 years.
Kind regards to you and yours.

Hi Edwin

I don't what Gerald did when he left school before the war. He worked for Racall for many years and emigrated to South Africa in 1963. His children still live there. No doubt Susan will be reading this thread and may have more information for you.

Kind Regards
Tony

Hi Edwin,
From what I recall Gerald went out to South Africa to work for a large defence company but was recruited by the South African government to oversee defence contracts. He came back to the UK fairly frequently during the Sixties, visiting his mother when he came and that is when I met him. His children, John and Janice, were brought up in SA and have made their homes there. I do not know anything more about them, though I believe that his wife Iris has also died.

all good things
Susan

Hi Susang

Thank you for your answer and info. Have been away travelling for a while but am now back in Canada. Nice to get some feedback on Gerry and his family. My kindest regards to all who helped trace an old school chum.
