"Doing their bit"

Munitions workers in Hayes. (c. 1915)

This was sent to our our hhlocalhistory Yahoogroup by Sandy Nordby. Sandy wrote: I was researching my Grandmother's history and came upon your request for information. I have a photo of my grandmother, great-grandmother and 10 other women noted "doing their bit on war service at Hayes". My guess it was taken approximately 1915 (she moved to Canada as a war bride in 1919). One woman is holding a slate which I believe says "amutol fillers". I know my grandmother was born in Middlesex and recall her telling me her fingers were yellow because she was a "Canarie" in WW1.
