Please, can somebody tell me why, the presentation was in French before English?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games

Quote:
French and English are the official languages of the Olympic Movement. The other language used at each Olympic Games is the language of the host country (or languages, if a country has more than one official language apart from French or English). Every proclamation (such as the announcement of each country during the parade of nations in the opening ceremony) is spoken in these three (or more) languages, or the main two depending on whether the host country is an English or French speaking country

If I recall correctly they have always used French and always first......

It's something to do with the modern Olympic games being the idea of a frenchman.

And all the streets in all the Olympic Parks would be lined with trees. (The German Army prefers to March in the Shade)..

Sensational start, rubbish in the middle apart from the Queen and Mr Bean and the cauldron was brilliant at the end.

I heard the modern Olympics started in an English village. A Frenchman saw it and ran with the idea, so to speak.

It was certainly left leaning and it didn't need to be. The first segment was excellent theatre and Branagh playing Brunel was brilliant casting. The highlight for me in fact was the transformation from rural to industrial landscape and the forging of the Olympic rings.. It was breathaking..

Brunel certainly had lots of diverse assistants which clearly would not have been historically correct. There was plenty of opportunity to include the diverse change the UK went through from when the ships started arriving from the Caribbean. Perhaps more emphasis should have been placed on it in that segment and later. As a counter balance a little more emphasis should have gone to the way Trade Unions forged industrial relations in the early to mid 19th Century, they covered the suffragette movement but other than a quick glance of the Jarrow marchers skipped right over that. End of the day it is still an important part of our history.

All said it was a great show just a little sad that someone somewhere has tried to make a political statement with it.....

Downside for me was Macca... He has had his day and looked very tired. Time he hangs up his guitars methinks..

Very rarely do I watch repeats of anything. I plan later today to watch the whole ceremony again on the I player..
