I lived in UB3 postcode for 13 years and moved to Yeading. I continued to visit Hayes regularly and worked in Blyth Road until 1987. As a child, Hayes was a great place, the canal, Botwell swing park, swimming pool, Skeffington Court and Austin Road for run-outs and during the summer, I frequented Benlow Works and Callards & Bowser to keep me occupied. Looking through adult eyes, I can fully understand why my parents moved away and certainly wouldn't contemplate living or recommend anyone live there now. The whole culture of Hayes has changed and is blending closely with Southall from both sides. My old street is now fully occupied by Asian families and their extended families, with all the gardens now having vast extensions and so-called gym outbuildings (complete with central heating, double glazing, kitchen and full bathroom suites - unusual gym equipment!). I only visit Hayes for my dentist and doctor on the outskirts and have fond memories from my childhood. Those memories and those of my parents as children are the ones i prefer

My brother still goes to Trevor Magaziner, although he hasn't lived in Hayes for about 30 years!! Friends of mine moved to Northampton, and used to come down to Mr Gold, who was in the same practice as Magaziner.

Thanks, looks like I got the wrong Hayes , website quote :-

Hayes generally is regarded as one of the most beautiful neighborhoods for “alley catting,” walking down public alleys admiring the open backyard gardens, where succulents droop down from landmark Victorian bungalows.

Flymo...? Can you still by the "flymo" brand? I saw one this side of the pond back in the summer. After googling the subject, it seems they didn't sell too well over here. Something to do with the wrong type of grass.

I lived in Carlton Ave from 1938/1956 went to Pinkwell Primary then Harlington Sec Mod, started Toolmaker app at EMI 1953 done spell in Blythe Road for maintaining machines, what a dangerous place that was, large drive belts flying everwhere I had mend them when they broke, used to go to Burtons on lunch break on motor bike, cold pie and tea. Dad dragged me out of there and took me to Hayling Island transfered app to GEC Portsmouth somehow he was the boss man there, played snooker for top team in Pompey league Div one Copnor, I love it here in NWFlorida but cant find a snooker table in 300 miles, I played with John Spencer, Jimmy White, Tony Meao? and other top players, 100 breaks were often but work came first.
