No such thing as drought, it rains here and it will always rain. The ability to collect and store it is the problem due to insufficient investment in the infrastructure over the years. We sheeple are simply becoming prepared for more stinging rises in water bills. Water Companies occupy a unique position in that they have a monopoly on your supply. If you don't like what you are being charged then tough you cannot move your service to another supplier. They also are not shy of awarding huge bonuses at the senior exec level nor large dividends at their AGM's. |

I don't think its drought so much, as the demand made on aquifers, and reservoirs has risen from 50 million to over 60 million, since the open door policy, of come here and live all you poor peoples, the state will look after you, another ill thought through policy of amateurs in government over the past two decades

We've all seen it; another 10,000, 12,000, 15,000 homes are built, but no addition is made to the water storage system. We are told our water bills must be increased so that proper investment can be made in the water supply system – but the water companies completely forget that the water charges on all those new properties will bring in mountains of extra cash. The same confidence trick applies to council tax – all those new homes are raising additional £millions in revenue.

I bet past politicos regret the day education was introduced to their manifesto's, I am far from being a clever dick, and of average education, considered pretty dumb by many, yet it is so blatant the total disregard the politicos have for the peasants, that we sit back in awe to whatever they say, and must be finding it hard that some even challenge their mutterings, I foresee that politics in the future will be obsolete, the dogma, envy, and plain pigheaded, will be banished too (A) a benign dictator) or (B) a committee to rule, all politics does is guarantee opposition to whatever, good or bad, and is just fodder to a cosy lifestyle to them engaged

This is the growth they talk about and what allows them to borrow ever increasing amounts of money on the international exchanges. In decades past the additional revenue would have gone to improve the infrastructure, today it goes to rewarding the employee base from senior management to the boardroom with bonuses (in the case of utilities). Council's simply use it to expand employment with non jobs with diversity or co-ordinator in the title. |

Drought conditions are a very real possibilty in some parts of the country in the coming months. While I agree the population increase plays a very large part, there has also been a decrease in rainfall in some regions for the last 3 years now. http://www.ceh.ac.uk/data/nrfa/nhmp/hs/ ... 201201.pdf Areas most at risk would appear to be The East Midlands, East Anglia, London and South East England. |

Whilst the North West of England notably the Lake District has more fresh water than they know what to do with....Even if the population were to treble overnight.. Yes I agree there may be less rain in places like East Anglia and the SE but this is not the issue although it is the way it is played for the consumption of the many across the media. Here in the UK we have modern 3 lane motorways linking most parts of the Country, is it beyond current technological advances to build a pipe network from the places that have plenty to the places that have little? Of course it isn't but then water companies are in the private sector and do not want to pay for it. Far easier to instigate a hosepipe ban and close down car washes for a Month or two isn't it, particularly when big water has the ear of Government. |
