As somebody who once worked in an industry that was covered by the Official Secrets Act, I know that if I had any links with agents that were considered a threat to national security that were as strong as David Cameron's links to Common Purpose, the Media Standards Trust, the Levenson Inquiry and the control of the press, then I would have been compelled to explain myself. There were times that even a planned holiday to some foreign countries would have required me to get special clearance before going on holiday, and a thorough vetting on my return to the UK. Somehow the same restrictions don't seem to apply to the establishment elite these days.
