Since when has WW2 handguns been described as antique? Hope this is not some sort of cynical attempt to downplay the seriousness of the crime.

The design (outward appearance) of the Browning 9mm for example has hardly changed over the last 70 years. The same pistol would be a preferred weapon of the scum who infest our streets.

yep, Google agrees with you:-

It is common practice to define "antique" as applying to objects at least 100 years old.
