Yep, they have been 'profiteering' out of control for years. I just hope this 'in depth' scrutiny pays off. Made me laugh/cry when they say it's all for future investment. That excuse has been going on for years and doesn't wash as 'profit' is 'profit'. They need now to be in the same boat as banks and have these no win no fee companies on to them with thousands of pounds of compensation claims. Latest is that they are now 'threatening' blackouts due to funding if found guilty. |

Banks and Energy Companies should exist to serve society not the bloody other way around, anyway there's a bunch of suits somewhere who've got Private School fees for their offspring to think about I suppose. |

Human nature and business practice to take best advantage of the regulatory system provided to them. Yes the power firms are scheming conniving (you can guess what goes here). But it not simply enough to blame them. OFGEN and the cretinous politicians who created the system which these firms operate in must take some of the blame. From the other point of view. If I was a shareholder and saw a 410% increase over 4 years (accepting that the DM figures are correct of course and we should take that with a large pinch of salt) I would be screaming for more and for politicians to keep their snouts out. Same sort of thing about Bob Crowe. He raised a few eyebrows in how he went about doing his job but at the end of the day he was just taking advantage of the system presented. He also got cracking good deals for the members of his trade union as he was good at what he did and knew how to play the system. Then we have MP's and their generous expenses system. It is there, it is legal of course they are going to take advantage of it!! |

When gas and electrcity was privatised and change of supplers was introduced we were told it would produce more effective competition and that would be reflected in lower energy bills but all I see are increased bills way over the rate of inflation, fat profits paid in dividends to shareholders and talk of black-outs! Time to deprivatise them all? |

Time to deprivatise them all? Whilst I think it was right to privatise some industries/companies ......BT and British Airways being the best examples, it was a disasterous and quite frankly treacherous move to sell off vital services to overseas investors and speculators. We are supposedly still amongst the richest nations in the world, so it defies belief that many of our citizens are in 'fuel poverty' and struggling to pay for what I consider to be essential basic supplies. Heat, light and water. This is the 21st Century in a supposedly 1st world country for heavens sake. |

Time to deprivatise them all? What the N Word? That's rather Socialist of you!!. Plenty of changes we can make before making these firms a burden on the taxpayer. Maximum Pricing. Maximum Profit margin. Price freeze (as is currently being mooted). Legislate to provide a framework for re-investment min 15% of gross profit per year for example. and so on.. |

What annoys me most about this at he moment is the threat from them that if they get investigated they will likely lead to brown-outs. That is the sort of rhetoric that should force nationalisation |
