Surprise surprise, from the BBC:

"The Chancellor, George Osborne, will publish Treasury findings today which suggest the government's curbs on fuel tax have been substantially offset by the stimulus given to the economy. The new analysis says around half the loss of revenue has been paid for by greater business activity. The calculation has encouraged Conservatives arguing for more tax cuts."

Quentin Wilson and FairFuel have been producing evidence to the Treasury for some considerable time, showing that a significant tax/duty reduction on road fuels would boost the economy and increase employment. And Osborne has steadfastly refused to reduce the numerical tax take on road fuels, now he claims that the tax freeze he has applied has resulted in a boost to the economy.

The vast majority of people have either suffered a zero% pay rise, or a significantly less than the true rate of inflation increase in income since Osborne has been heading up the Treasury. For Osborne & Co to consider a tax freeze on road fuels is somewhat less than honest. Now that the tax freeze on road fuel has resulted in an effective tax reduction for a very small minority of the better off; such as bankers, utility bosses, politicians, NHS chiefs, local authority chiefs, BBC pay-off recipients, and corporations paying very low levels of corporation taxes; for Osborne and the Treasury to now try and take some of the glory is rather disingenuous and hypocritical of them.

For Osborne and his Treasury chums to now try and take some of the glory is rather disingenuous and extremely hypocritical of them.

But then, we've become conditioned to expecting politicians to be deceitful, dishonest, self-glorifying, and manipulative with the truth. And it somewhat comes as a culture shock when a politician tells the truth like it is, as Nigel Farage did when debating with Clegg.

By Osborne claiming he's “curbed” the tax on road fuel he is in effect admitting that the value of the tax levied has been reduced. This is Osborne saying that the value of the pound in your pocket has been significantly reduced to a fraction of the value it was when this government came to power. How much spending power we have lost very much depends on where we are in the income rankings. The bankers and other high income brackets have all had their incomes very well protected throughout this period of enforced austerity; while ordinary employees, pensioners, and the unemployed have paid the real price for the engineered devaluation of the pound.

According to Osborne, we're all in this together. What he means is, we're all supposedly feeding from the same trough, but only the select few are permitted to get their snouts anywhere near the grub.

Consider the stark contrast between those who through no fault of their own are somewhat dependent on food banks, and compare with those of the elite who attend such luxurious occasions as the Lord Mayor's Dinner. Or compare the disabled dependent who have their income reduced by the 'bedroom tax' by the very politicians who think nothing of routinely stealing from the taxpayer by claiming £thousands in fraudulent expenses. The contrasts are obscene, especially when we understand that very many of the obscenely wealthy are thoroughly undeserving of their wealth, and the downtrodden are just that – downtrodden by those in undeservedly powerful and wealthy positions.
