A firearm has been recovered after a man was shot and seriously injured by police following a seven-hour siege.
The incident began when officers escorted a housing official to a residential address in Tilson Gardens, Lambeth, south London, as part of a pre-planned eviction, Scotland Yard said.
At 9.45am on Friday, unarmed officers tried to enter the property. As they were doing so, a man was seen emerging from one of the rooms with what officers believed was a handgun.
Officers withdrew and a police negotiator, London Ambulance Service and firearms officers were called to the scene.
At about 4.45pm the man was shot by police outside the premises.
The 34-year-old man was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and taken to a south London hospital suffering serious injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition.
Police said he has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Course it remains to be seen as to whether this was a fake or a real weapon... Irrespective of that the police are entitled to treat everything they are threatened with as being real and acting accordingly to protect both their own lives and those of the public..
The IPCC are obliged to investigate all police shootings so in time we will get an independent report..
