| Post subject: | Lost Emails |
Recently I tried to empty my "Deleted Items" folder, I selected all the messages and hit "Delete" this caused my computer to freeze and when I rebooted had lost everything from all folders including the Address Book. I'm using XP and Outlook. Any ideas on how to retrieve them?

Only if you've been backing your .PST file Download and install Microsofts free pfbackup utility. That allows you to automatically backup the whole contents of Outlook somewhere else for safety. |

I was going to say, I bet the emails aren't really lost but for some reason Outlook's not accessing them. I'd give that a try Bri if I were you. |

A search does not reveal any .pst files.

.PST only refers to true Outlook not connected to an Exchange Server. Outlook Express uses .OST files from what I can remember. If this is Outlook and you can't find a .PST do a search for .OST just in case. |

.PST files refers to Outlook POP mail .OST files refer to Exchange Server (Offline files). I thought Outlook Express used .DBX files. Anyway, back to Brian's dilemma. I'm currently in the process of restoring 12 years worth of e-mails, thruough probably about 10 HDD failures (including 2 pairs RAID'ed disks). In the process I've come across some .BAK files. Now I'm not sure whether these were created during the processes I've been carrying out or whether they are created under normal conditions. So it might be worth searching for outlook.bak, backup.bak or archive.bak If you do find them, take a safe copy then change their extension to .pst and if they're not already then move them to c:\docucument and Settings\{your name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ - For Windows XPor C:\Users\{Your Name}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ Good Luck Phil

i allways tick the leave copy on the server then i can just download them all if needed , but i also save a copy of the .pst on a disk |
