Good point made there Jim. Sunburn and heat stroke are two major concerns, and I think the Met Office have done the right thing by issuing the warnings/advisories.

Some widespread heat across the UK today ( Saturday ) with 30c ( 86f ) being reported from a number of locations and Heathrow reaching 31c ( 88f ) at 5pm. It's still 30c at 7pm so a bit on the warm side. Some coastal towns in East Anglia and Kent/Sussex struggled to reach 18-20c
( 64-68f ) apparently so quite a difference.

The thunderstorm risk for London and The South East this evening is now all but gone. Some thunderstorms did erupt in Yorkshire, The East Midlands and Lincolnshire this afternoon and evening, but these were very isolated, and I very much doubt they will head south.

Another very warm and largely dry week ahead looks likely.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Moley 8-) 8-)

The Met Office have issued another Heat/Health advisory update which extends into Sunday.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/heat-health/

The main warning is for the West Country, which I find a bit odd given that temperatures there are a few degrees lower than the actual and predicted temperatures in the London area for the next few days.

Looking at the prospects, I think London is a place to be avoided if at all possible in the next few days. Hot and humid is not a good mix.

On Teletext they were showing a forecast of light rain for Wed, that's now gone, sun for the next 5 days.

Hosepipe ban ?

Rainfall totals are way below average in London and The South East for June and July so far, but apparently reservoir levels are fine. The outlook for the next 7 days is mostly dry, sunny and very warm/hot, with the only chance of rain being in the form of one or two very isolated thunderstorms. The chance of seeing one in our region is low.

Heathrow reached 29.8c today, following an overnight minimum of 18.2c, and daytime temperatures look set to stay around 26-30c ( 79-86f ) for much of the coming week. Cooler on coasts, but some inland locations may reach 32c ( 90f ).

The only hint a of a return to cooler temperatures is still some 7-10 days away yet, though of course that may change.

**Teletext - I thought that was closed down some time ago ??

I seem to remember the Met Office telling us a month or two ago that it was going to be a wet summer.

Oh yes, here it is, one month ago... 10 to 20 years of wet summers they said:

The Met Office do seem prone to shooting themselves in the foot sometimes, and this 'unprecedented gathering ' of scientists and meteorologists ( it wasn't unprecedented at all by the way ), does leave them wide open to more criticism. I thought they may have learned a lesson when they finally abandoned making their long range forecasts available to the public 2 or 3 years ago, apparently not though.

As regular readers of this forum will know, I rarely criticise the Met Office, but I can understand why a lot of folk do.

Hi Pam. It's always nice to hear from people who are making the most of this lovely spell of weather and enjoying it. Heaven knows we have waited long enough !!

I realise it is not everyones ideal, but I have actually stopped visiting some weather websites in the last couple of days because the moaning from some posters became too much. Here in the UK we are actually blessed with one of the most comfortable climates on the planet. I know it doesn't always seem that way but it is a fact.

I would never want a swap from the climate we have, we have it all, and seldom to the extremes that are found in some countries, that live 24/7 in one or the other, like Bob Hope once said we get all four seasons in England, sometimes in a single day, and as such we can live in any part of the world, maybe its our weather patterns that attract so many who want to live here, along with our benefits system, we are amongst Gods chosen few.
