I enjoy reading your posts Moley :D

You're so right Jim, the weather here in the UK is never boring. Noeline lives in the Gambia and knows exactly what the next day is going to bring (either rain or sunshine according to the season)

My husband hates the heat and moans constantly but that's normal for him  He wants some rain because his rainwater stock has gone down and his plants are going to suffer

I don't want or need rain and as long as I keep out of the sun at mid-day, I'm not getting burned and am enjoying it.

Continuation.....

So......Heathrow was the UK's warmest spot on 6 of the 16 days so far, and was amongst the top 10 warmest spots on a further 6 days, only lagging behind by a fraction of a degree Celsius on most of those.

What I find quite remarkable about this month so far is the consistency and spread of the maximum temperatures. From July 6th until today the maximum has ranged between 28.1c and 31.4c so no real peaks and troughs. Spread wise these temperatures have been recorded from places as far apart as Solent and Bournemouth on the South Coast, to as far north as Castelderg in Northern Ireland and Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire. Scotland hasn't faired too badly either. A direct result of that great big High Pressure System sitting more or less right on top of the UK, and still showing no inclination to go anywhere soon.

Looking ahead it seems like more of the same for most of us, and if the computer models are to be believed ( they are as confused by this as me !! ) we could be in for at least another 7-10 days of very similar weather. Here in London and the South East maximum temperatures are still predicted to remain between 27-31c ( 81-88f ) during this time, with one or two locations possibly reaching 32-33c ( 90-92f ) at times.

Whilst not 'record breaking' as some newspapers are reporting, this certainly is turning into a noteworthy spell of summer weather, the likes of which we last saw back in July 2006.

Please post your thoughts, reports and comments, and in particular how this is affecting you, your garden or anything else.

Moley 8-) 8-) 8-)

Welcome to this topic George and thanks for posting. My car has air con but the refrigerant has run out so I can sympathise. Common sense should have told me to have it re-gassed a few weeks ago but I rarely drive these days so didn't bother.

I am enjoying Tfl's efforts to cool passengers down this summer and given them 7/10 for my regular commute home.

This evening the Jubilee line at Baker St had cool air blowing from vents in the ceiling above the platforms which was pretty effective and the Met line home from the same station has the trains with air con. Not exactly artic conditions, but it is pretty good

Mind you earlier today I was on the northern line and blimey - the heat was almost unfit for humans. Thank God the train kept running or else we would have been in trouble

The aircon in my Jeep today was a Godsend, keeping all the doors and windows closed, problem is open the door and it all falls out.

Apparently the train from Reading to Hayes yesterday evening was over 50°C inside. Very few were sitting in the seats on the right side because the sun was too strong. The train was packed but most were standing in the shaded side.

When she got in she was too hot to eat.

All our fish died yesterday and my husband had to empty the pond - he wasn't very happy as it was really warm yesterday evening.

We will be taking out the pond but not till the weather cools down a bit. I believe we have a lot more sunshine to come ..........
