I caught it out -

Day off yesterday so washed the car. Sure enough at 05:30 this morning it started tipping it down, normally the time I leave for work.

Car safely tucked up in the garage as I've got today off as well

Kremm, you get the award for the most washed car ever. Has it even lost it's showroom shine yet ?!

I probably won't be posting so often for a while so just a quick look at the prospects for London and The South East for the rest of August.

High Pressure is likely to stay close to the south of the UK for the next couple of weeks, but not close enough to repeat the conditions we had in July. It should remain fairly settled though, with temperatures about average for this time of year. 23-24c ( 73-75f ). There are no signs of any significant weather events.

Nice weather.

Yep luvvly and shiny. Being as I do over 200 miles a week and it's a 13 plate, must keep it in tip-top condition.

Thank you for your kind comment Batty. I'm not planning to dissappear altogether just yet but might have to scale back my posts for a while. If some significant weather for our region looks probable I will try and and keep abreast of it and post as much information as I can.

Today marked the 10th anniversary of the UK's hottest ever day, August 10th 2003 when 100f was reached for the first time. This Bbc news clip says that milestone was recorded at Heathrow Aiport with a maximum of 37.9c. Once all the official reports for that day were in the record actually went to Brogdale in Kent, with a maximum of 38.5c.

I remember that week well. My cousin and his family were taking their first holiday abroad in 15 years. They went to Portugal and I was house and dog sitting for them at their home not far from Eastbourne. What a relief it was to be so close to the coast !!

Thank you as always for reading ( approaching 20,000 views now ) and posting.

Thanks all. Just a very quick update from me.

Potential is there for a plume of warm and humid air ( tropical source ) reaching London and the South East on Thursday this week, bringing with it a temporary rise in temperatures and some heavy rainfall for some of us.

That should then be swept away by a Low Pressure system moving in from the Atlantic just in time for the weekend. I wouldn't make too many plans for outside activities this weekend to be honest, it doesn't look too good.

Next week looks quite promising though, as an Azores High tries to build and we could see a return to a warm and settled spell of weather for a while.

Moley 8-)

**UPDATED FRIDAY AUGUST 16TH 2013 @ 0835hrs**

There is a slight to moderate risk of thunderstorms later today, most likely in the north of our region, so London and the Home Counties basically.

I'm not at all impressed with the weather so far this month, after a glorious July it seems we have reverted back to grey and gloomy days of summer.

Moley :(
