Perhaps the "I-can-go-anywhere" attitude of some 4x4 drivers that make the whole situation worse when it comes to the risk of driving through floods.

I note that the new Range Rover 4x4 Sports has a 'Wade Aid' feature - a 007 sonar device fitted to the door mirrors which measures the depth of flood water as you approach and sounds an alarm if it's too deep.

Clever stuff, but will it prevent incidents such as the Essex one, or encourage more drivers to take a chance?

I remember we refused to take buses under West Drayton dip when it was really bad. One time there were a few of us drivers standing around watching the chaos having parked up in WD station and a Granada went through. The water got right up to his bottom windscreen but he got through !!

Obviously a diesel but it was comical.

Oh I remember it always seemed to be flooded. Fortunately they evetually sorted it!

Good evening all and thanks once again for reading and posting. :)

Keeping it brief, a few days ago the prospects for this weekend didn't look at all promising. I'm pleased to say that since then the pattern has changed slightly and overall the majority of London and The South East should maintain a fairly settled spell of weather for the next few days.

There is a slight hiccup as weather fronts try and make their way south overnight Friday, but nothing too disruptive. It's currently 25c ( 77f ) here and I think maximum temperatures over the weekend will be several degrees cooler, but still feeling quite pleasant as we bid farewell to the Official Meteorological Summer which ends on Saturday August 31st.

Autumn officially begins on Sunday, not that nature takes any notice of that.

Have a good weekend. Moley 8-)

*** THANK YOU ***

Sometime today ( Saturday August 31st ), this topic received it's 20,000th view since it re-opened on January 12th 2012. My sincere thanks to each and every one of you who have taken the time and trouble to read and/or post during this time. It means a great deal to me.

To reach that landmark on the last official day of summer 2013, with the sun shining down from clear blue skies makes it all the more special. Thank you all.

Moley 8-) :D

:) Thanks Pam. Burtons Dance Hall in Uxbridge would have been nice ;). Yep I have been reading that topic in Light Chat this afternoon and scouring the net for more information about it. Sadly there's very little out there.

Moley. :(

It may officially be Autumn but Summer 2013 seems reluctant to loosen its grip for a few days yet at least.

Currently 25c (77f ) under mostly clear blue skies here today, and that looks like being the case until Thursday/Friday as warm and increasingly humid air is being drawn up from the near continent. Temperatures in our region may well rise further between now and then, possibly reaching 28-29c ( 82-84f ) for a day or two.

By Thursday my attention is drawn to a Low Pressure sytem forming to our south and heading north into Southern Counties of the UK. The potential is there for some heavy showers to develop with this Low, and we may see a thundery breakdown as we head towards the weekend.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)
