Interesting response there SOT, and thanks for posting it.

I will try and respond in a few minutes once the latest monsoon like rain has passed through. All joking aside it's pretty wild here, winds gusting around 60mph and torrential rain.

Moley

I was part watching a political program yesterday involving a few politicians and one of them said that the people in the affected areas of Somerset must have known when they bought their property that it was below sea level.

I wasn't paying much attention at the time because I was working at home but that statement caused audience uproar. The comment was insinuating self inflicted.

What I did notice throughout the program was that Theresa May was determined to have her say and the others politely kept quiet while she did, but she cut in and rudely interrupted all the others - what a nasty piece of work she is.

^^^ And she is apparently in the running to be the next leader of the Labour party.

I digress. Today has turned out to be almost spring-like in these here Northwood Hills with abundant sunshine, blue skies and temperatures close to double figures. What could possibly go wrong ?

The Atlantic is brewing up more potential wet and windy weather for our battered island. The days to watch are late Tuesday into Wednesday and next Friday.

As always with these weather systems it's a case of waiting and watching the computer models to see if they reach any sort of agreement. The exact track of these low pressure systems is difficult to predict this far out, but the first one midweek could be a problem for the South.

Apologies for being so vague ( medication is confusing me ), but I will try and update in the coming days.

It's all quiet for now but unfortunately that looks pretty much certain now Kremmen. The Met Office have issued warnings for our region for both Wednesday and Friday :

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weat ... 1391558400

Winds are predicted to gust 70-80mph in coastal regions and possibly as high as 60mph inland. Rainfall forecasts are rather worrying for areas already affected by flooding.

Looking further ahead it seems this pattern will continue for some time. There are a number of discussions on the weather websites I frequent about this growing trend for weather systems to become 'locked in' for weeks, and possibly months on end, and the general consensus seems to be that this trend has become more prevelant in the last 10-15 years.

My memory** is not too good these days so I may get some of the years wrong, but the stats do seem to confirm this.

The very warm summers of 2003 and 2006, the washout summer of 2007, the harsh winter of 2012/13 and the very mild but stormy winter of 2013/14 so far. As a relatively small island located between the vast Atlantic ocean to our west and the huge continental land mass to our east our weather is notoriously unpredictable and changeable, but patterns do seem to be emerging. Food for thought I think.

Enough of my ramblings for now, time for a lie down.

** It's not just my memory that is fading, the one subject I excelled in at school was spelling, and that faculty is fading fast so apologies for any errors. Age and medication are to blame !!

Thanks as always for reading and posting and please heed the Met Office warnings for this week, take care and stay safe folks.

Moley. 8-)

*** UPDATED TUESDAY FEBRUARY 4TH 2014 @ 21:00 Hrs ***

The onslaught from the Atlantic continues, with the latest low pressure system just reaching our shores this evening. The winds here are already picking up, and we are in for a wet and windy Tuesday night/Wednesday morning here in London and the South East.

The Met Office have updated their weather warnings, and they now extend from tonight into the weekend :

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... nings.html

There is now general agreement between all the major weather computer models that this very disturbed pattern of weather is going to hang around for some time, and the South West, South, and South East may well bear the brunt of the heaviest rainfall. Areas that least need it to be honest. Flooding is already a problem for some, but unfortunately the signs are this may well become worse in the coming days.

The Atlantic seems determined to spawn a whole train of Low Pressure sytems affecting the UK for the foreseeable future.

One of the most knowledgable and respected contributors to some of the many weather websites I'm a member of and contributor to had this to say earlier today:

Quote " In summary the weather remains extremely and exceptionally unsettled. For me it's the longest and most volatile Atlantic period of weather that I can ever remember and it is still looking relentess " Unquote.

Just to make it clear, I'm no meteoroligist, just a keen amateur weather geek. Whilst I'm very grateful to everyone who reads and posts on this thread, I would strongly advise you to also regularly check the latest advice and warnings issued by the Met Office and the Environment Agency.

Batten doen the hatches folks. Moley :(

Overall I think the Met Office do a pretty good job but I have to question why their their latest weather warning was upgraded to an amber alert so late in the evening. Thats already too late for the areas now being affected.

I slept right through last night and only realised it has been raining when I saw the puddle on the corner of the street. quite a lot in Surrey again as the usual places had the usual deep puddles.

^^^ I think a lot of folk would be happy with just a puddle now Kremmen !

It's pretty grim down in the South West and there are recent reports that a large section of the seawall which carries South Western mainline trains has collapsed, taking a part of the station with it and damaging a large section of track. All train services there are apparently cancelled until further notice. I suspect it could be for a considerable length of time.

Moley :(

EDIT by Moley.

I have removed the earlier link I posted. Several reports suggesting it contains malware :(
