Apologies if my recent post sounded a bit negative. I have good days and bad days, I guess yesterday fell into the latter category. and it's probably best I don't post on days like that. :?

Well putting that aside, today ( Monday ) once again delivered some quite impressive thunderstorms in our region, particularly to the west of London.

Shortly after 2pm I could hear almost constant thunder from a storm which was apparently in the Heathrow area. That was followed by another storm later in the day, following a practically identical track. This year is according to several sources, turning out to be one of the most thunderstorm prone years for quite some time.

Pure speculation on my part, but it also coincides with some of the warmest sea surface temperatures recorded around our shores since the summer of 2003. Parts of the south coast are now recording sea temperatures close to 21c ( 70f ). It takes a lot for me to even dip my toes in the English Channel but
in my recent stay in Sussex I took several plunges. It did wonders for my back condition !

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

I wondered what happened.

When I got home at 5 the puddles in the roads were deeper than I've seen for many years. Also, I've got a security shutter over my patio door and the rain had driven behind it so the glass was wet - that's a first.

Also - don't know what happened round the White Hart/Glencoe road area but the traffic was queued all the way back to the Yeading roundabout from both the White Hart A312 and the E6 bus route round Glencoe road.

Mad me chuckle because I came down the outside lane towards Yeading Tesco and I could see the drivers thinking I was going to cut in so they all closed up n early hitting each other, but I was going straight on to Tesco anyway :)

Well after the rather pleasant and often summery weather of June and July for most of our region, it seems the month of August is intent on being something of a let-down by comparison. Despite the fact that given the right circumstances August quite often produces the highest temperatures of the summer, including the all time record, it can often be a disappointment.

Looking at the immediate prospects and beyond, the ingredients are mostly in place to produce some further heavy and at times thundery downpours anywhere across London and the South East on Thursday. Any storms which do develop are likely to be slow moving and therefore localised flooding is again a possibility.

As we head towards the weekend there are signs that a weak ridge of High Pressure may settle things down a touch over the weekend, but with the airflow from a more or less northerly direction temperatures will be supressed to some extent, with maximums probably between 20-23c ( 68-73f ).

Looking ahead to next week there is a threat of Low Pressure bringing a further spell of unsettled weather to our region towards midweek. All in all it looks very unlikely we will see a return to the warm/hot and settled spells of weather we experienced in the previous two months anytime soon.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

Just a very quick update but for anyone planning or thinking about outdoor activities this weekend, if you have a choice I would favour Saturday.

Sunday now doesn't look to promising at all, with fairly strong winds from a roughly northerly direction dragging in cool and mostly cloudy conditions. Far from ideal for what is for many folk the peak holiday season. I hope it improves soon but the signs are not too promising.

Moley :(

It's a shame that now we have hit the peak holiday season when many folk will be taking their annual holidays in the UK, the weather is letting them down, especially when compared to the last two months.

The more I look, the less I can find any signs of any real improvement for the rest of this month :(

The current northerly influence seems set for some time, and if it does give way it's only likely to be replaced by a strong westerly flow from The Atlantic. That would lead to pretty much the same conditions we are experiencing now, although maybe a degree or so higher temperatures. It seems that ex hurricane Bertha burst our summer bubble.

London and The South East are favourable for the best conditions, but nothing to get excited about. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for anyone holidaying at home, but if the outlook changes you can read it hear.

Moley :)

Wasn't it just ?! Same again on Sunday with winds gusting around or above 30mph for several hours. I got the forecast for Sunday wrong though, out of the wind it was actually a quite pleasant day with some long spells of sunshine.
