Hose pipe job yesterday because it hasn't rained properly in ages.

I really appreciate the fact you read it and post Kremmen. Thank you.

Up until now this month has been noticeably dry in our region. Here in Northwood we had a 30 second shower on Sunday afternoon, blink and you would have missed it. I think that was the first rainfall of any kind so far this month hereabouts.

The week ahead looks quite interesting, with a low pressure system trying to approach from the South West later in the week. That may well lead to rising temperatures as it drags in warmer air from the south, coupled with rising humidity. Temperatures in London and the South East may well reach 24- 25c ( 75- 77f ) for a day or two by the end of the week.

There is a slight to moderate risk of thunderstorms developing as a result, but this risk is currently restricted to South West and Southern Counties of England.

Beyond that it looks as though high pressure is set to build again, leading to another spell of settled and dry weather for most of our region for the foreseeable future.

Thanks as always for reading and posting.

Well my last prediction wasn't too far off the mark and some parts of London and The South East have delivered the goods, with temperatures reaching 24.6c and some quite spectacular thunderstorms again breaking out across the region.

Overnight here in Northwood the thunderstorm arrived just after 4am and lasted for 2 hours, very little in the way of rain though. The Met Office have extended their weather warning for further thunderstorms as per the link below :

Hello.....is anyone out there ?

On the off chance that anyone is, some of you may have seen certain daily rags forecasting an October heatwave. As anyone who regularly reads this topic hopefully knows by now, I don't do spectacular headlines. I leave that to the red tops. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong :x

So far this month the weather in London and The South East has been largely influenced by high pressure, and that trend looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. As we have seen that can lead to a mixture of sunny weather, but cloud off the North Sea or from the South West can spill in to spoil things at times.

Having had a close look at all the computer models, high pressure seems to be the favoured option for way beyond my usual comfort zone prediction wise which is 3-5 days.

Some very knowledgeable weather folk are getting quite excited by the current models. We may be looking at one of the most powerful and extensive High Pressure systems in the weeks to follow.

I have just come back from nearly two weeks working in Ulster and not a drop of rain during that time, in fact it got up to 21C and sunny - so it was (as the locals would say)!

The locals say it is unprecedented in September. Mind you, they did get a heavy shower the night I left :)

They said on the Beeb weather yesterday that we've only had 9mm of our usual 49mm September average.

It was nice while it lasted, but changes are afoot as we head into October.

Low Pressure to the North West of the UK will slowly but surely bring about a more autumnal feel to the weather. Here in London and the South East we should hang on to the mild and mostly settled weather until the weekend, but beyond that it looks as though Atlantic lows will become more dominant as the Jet Stream slips further south.

A spell of wet and windy weather is knocking on our door.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

Hello Kremmen, am I right in thinking you officially retire this week ? If so congratulations and enjoy every minute of your well earned rest.

Just a quick update from me regarding the now inevitable change in the weather here in London and The South East. We should just about hang onto the mild and settled conditions until Saturday, but beyond that it's a very quick change to autumnal weather as a cold front approaches from the north west, with temperatures falling quite rapidly.
