Its a real mish-mash at the moment as this front heads south. For anyone planning to travel in the next few hours I would advise EXTREME caution. In an earlier post I mentioned the possibility of freezing rain in the North......well it happened, and here are some of the results :

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -snow.html

Rain falling on frozen surfaces is a nightmare as it forms an invisible sheet of ( black ) ice.

The rain has started turning to snow in parts of the North, The Midlands and East Anglia in the last hour or so according to live reports Im seeing. For some reason the precipitation radars have been playing up all day, making it all but impossible to guage whats happening/going to happen where and when. The most likely reason is that a lot of what is currently falling out of the sky isn't actually reaching the ground, and yes that can happen, it evaporates on the way down.

For now I will stick by what I said earlier, that the worst of any snow is likely to miss the far eastern/southern counties, so Essex/Kent/Sussex and most of Surrey. Counties north and West of London will see the heaviest snowfall for our region Ie: Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire/Berkshire plus others counties further west and south.

North and West London may see a dusting in the next few hours, but no more than an inch I would say, if that. As always with the weather, it can change at any time so its worth keeping the usual eyes and ears open for up to the minute local forecasts and traffic reports.

Thanks for reading and posting ( oh and welcome to new member Leanne !! ). Moley 8-)

It is also worth popping your head outside occasionaly as well !!

Light to moderate snow has been reported quite widely across London and the South East for the last couple of hours. As expected the heavier falls are being reported from north and west of London, but its still an ever changing situation, and one to keep a watch on.

Plus 3c and blue skies in London Ontario today; February in Canada ?

So far it's been a relatively mild winter and I hope it stays that way as my health problems make me feel cold most of the time.
Also eases the driving to my Hospital Appointments for Ann and Daughter.

^^ I can relate to that GMR, and I wish you all well.

Here in Northwood its now approaching 4 hours of continuous light to moderate snowfall. Luckily it has been 'wet snow' so depths are only around the 2.5cm ( 1 inch ) mark up until now, and most roads and pavements are still clear in our area.

The system responsible for this took a late change of course this afternoon.....further east than was expected, so snowfall in London and the South East has been more widespread than I originally thought. Its still difficult to say how long this snow will continue, but as temperatures are now falling below freezing, conditions in the morning will potentially be hazardous. Please bear that in mind if travelling.

The roads are semi-OK. All major's seem to have been gritted and I had no real difficulty getting out to Surrey. Steering went a bit light in a few places down the A320 near McLaren's but no real panic.

Just watch out for the other idiot's in this weather :)

No snow in Edinburgh yesterday, just a little rain. It looks good for Braemar for the next few days.
:D
