Only rained for about 10 minutes yesterday then fine.

I also note that the BBC have revised their forecast to no rain for the foreseeable future. You can't predict nature :)

We went to B & Q at Yeading yesterday and the car park was soaking wet - it had obviously been raining there.

I hadn't noticed any other water on the roads or pavements all the way from Cowley to Yeading - it was most odd.

Thanks for the posts Kremm and Sunshine. It's always useful to hear what is happening around the region. Yesterdays rainfall ( if you can call it that ) was very localised and short lived around these parts, and both your reports confirm that. The heavy rain was confined to East Kent yesterday.

Heavier showers developed just to the West/North West of London this afternoon ( Friday ) and one passed right overhead of me about 3pm. It was pretty torrential for 30 minutes, but it did at least manage to clear some of the gloomy grey clag that has been with us for much of this week.

As regular readers of this topic may know I do like a thunderstorm, but events over on the near continent this week have left me thinking 'be careful what you wish for' !!

France and Germany have experienced some incredible thunderstorms this week, and I'm not sure I would have felt so comfortable being underneath them. There are sites which report the number of lightning strikes, and yesterday there were apparently over 400,000 in Germany. I can well believe that having watched a live Hamburg webcam, the lightning was non-stop for several hours, for the 3rd day in a row.

Back to the rather more sedate weather here in the UK, and in particular London and The South East then :

The weekend looks quite unsettled, with showers likely for most of us, temperatures around 16-20c ( 61-68f ). Next week should see a slight improvement with less in the way of rain, and showers, but temperatures still hovering around or perhaps just below average.

Overall not too bad then, but no heatwaves on the horizon.

Thanks as always for reading and posting, and have a great weekend whatever the weather.

Yep - rain back. Raining now and the Beeb have revised their forecast again to rain all weekend.

It's been raining here but stopped now. I wonder if we can get the dog out in the breaks between showers (he hates getting wet)

Here are the figures for the last years:

June 2009 Min 11.2 Max 28.5
June 2010 Min 10.2 Max 31.8
June 2011 Min 10.7 Max 31.6
June 2012 Min 9.3 Max 29.5
June 2013 Min 11.2 Max 25.8

The above may not be accurate but all taken using the same Min Max thermometer in the same shaded position.

Not hitting anywhere near the Max so far. In fact until this past week the Max was only on 23.6

More details later, but there are growing signs that next week will be better than originally thought. Mostly dry ( Thursday uncertain ) and gradually becoming warmer.

When's this wind going to go away ?

Been howling a gale since midweek :(

A good question Kremm and one that has been asked on several weather websites, along with what is causing it ? I have yet to see an answer. Its blowing an absolute hooley here again today, more in keeping with Autumn than high summer, and even during the sunny spell of 2 weeks ago the temperature was offset by near constant nagging winds. The only thing that has changed is the direction, from a north easterly to a south westerly.

In fact the wind strength has been a regular feature for most of this year so far, particularly in the South East.

***If the clouds part long enough to allow a glimpse later today, look out for the 'supermoon' phenomenen :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23013393

Best seen when the moon is nearest the horizon, just after moonrise and just before moonset. The times are in this link, but for London moonrise is just after 9pm tonight and moonset just before 5am Monday morning.

Thanks for posting those Kremm The readings look pretty accurate, and not at all bad considering they were taken from a simple min/max thermometer. I used to have one of these
positioned on my pergoda until the local cats discovered the pergoda was a convenient walkway and destroyed my weather station en-route
