I doff my cap to the good folk who have bought this website back to life again though. Its probably a difficult time for them so I dont want to overload it right now. Suffice to say the temperatures will take a dip towards the weekend. If I can find my way back to geezer466 link I might just try and start up a dedicated weather website, and keep it linked to here. A government warning said that anyone travelling in snow or icy conditions should take: Shovel, Blankets or Sleeping Bag Extra clothing including Scarf, Socks, Hat and Gloves Waterproof Boots with non-slip chain attachments. 24 hours supply of food and drink De-Icer 5Kgs of Rock Salt Torch or Lantern with spare batteries Mobile Phone Road Flares and/or Reflective Triangles Tow Rope 5 gallon can of Petrol First Aid Kit Jump Leads I looked a complete pratt on the bus this morning.

What I don't understand is the BBC temperature readings/forecasts. All day for the last few days the BBC teletext and occasional live reports at news time have been displaying local temperatures as being 0 to 1 degree. According to my outside temp gauge it's been more like 3 to 5 during the day. This has been confirmed by the Met Office Northolt live temp. Also the morning reports have warned early morning drivers to be careful because of the overnight sub zero temps freezing the snow......but it's not fallen below zero overnight round here !!! |

Unless things have changed since I installed a weather station, the official temperature readings are usually taken under standard conditions in a cabinet called a Stevenson screen. (A white box of standard dimensions) From memory at a set height above ground. |
